4×4 in n out : Price, Calories & How to Order (2026)
A 4×4 in n out is four beef patties and four slices of American cheese on a standard bun. The most commonly cited price is about $10.99, and it runs roughly 1,050 calories with about 67 g of protein. You do not need a code word the 4×4 is on In-N-Out’s not-so-secret menu, and it is the largest burger the crew is allowed to build.
Regulars call it the Quad Quad. Four patties at roughly two ounces each works out to half a pound of beef the same amount of meat as a Burger King Double Whopper. It is the biggest burger the crew will build you. Not because they cannot stack higher, but because they stopped allowing it.

How Much Is a 4×4 at In-N-Out?
This is what most people actually want to know, so it goes first The price you will see quoted most often is $10.99. That figure deserves a caveat In-N-Out has never published an official price list, so every number online including that one comes from someone reading a menu board in one particular state.
Search around and you will find the same burger quoted anywhere from $9.10 to $12. All of those can be true at once, because In-N-Out prices differ by state. California runs highest, Texas tends to run lowest, and the gap is real money.

| Item | Commonly cited price | What you get |
| Cheeseburger | $3.45 | 1 patty, 1 cheese |
| Double-Double | $5.65 | 2 patties, 2 cheese |
| 3×3 | $8.45 | 3 patties, 3 cheese |
| 4×4 | $10.99 | 4 patties, 4 cheese |
How the 4×4 Price Is Actually Built
The pricing is simple addition, and knowing the components lets you sanity check any figure you see. Start from a Double-Double.
Each extra beef patty adds roughly $1.30 and each extra slice of cheese roughly $0.50 about $1.80 per patty-and-cheese pair. Two pairs on top of a Double-Double puts you near $9.25, and stores round up from there.
4×4 or Two Double-Doubles?
Two Double-Doubles give you the same four patties and four cheese slices for roughly $11.30, plus a second bun and a second round of lettuce, tomato and spread.
So the two options land within pennies of each other. The 4×4 wins on beef density and one wrapper. Two Double-Doubles win on total food and are far easier to eat.
In-N-Out 4×4 Calories and Nutrition
In-N-Out publishes nutrition data for its standard menu but not for custom builds. Nobody has official 4×4 numbers but the standard menu gives you everything needed to calculate them accurately.

The Math, So You Can Check It
In-N-Out publishes a Cheeseburger at 480 calories and a Double-Double at 670. The difference between them is exactly one patty and one slice of cheese: 190 calories.
Protein scales the same way A published Double-Double carries 37 g each extra pair adds about 15 g, putting a 4×4 at roughly 67 g.
| Nutrient | 4×4 (standard) | 4×4 Protein Style | 4×4 Animal Style |
| Calories | 1,050 | 900 | 1,150 |
| Protein | 67 g | 67 g | 67 g |
| Fat | 69 g | 59 g | 80 g |
| Total carbs | 39 g | 11 g | 42 g |
| Sodium | 2,300 mg | 2,100 mg | 2,600 mg |
4×4 Macros at a Glance
Roughly 67 g of protein, 69 g of fat and 39 g of carbs. By calories that is about 59% fat, 26% protein and 15% carbohydrate.
The protein number is why lifters order it. Sixty seven grams from a drive thru for around eleven dollars is difficult to beat anywhere.
In-N-Out 4×4 Protein Style Calories
Swapping the bun for a lettuce wrap takes a 4×4 down to roughly 900 calories and about 11 g of carbs, while keeping all 67 g of protein.
The bun accounts for about 150 calories and 28 g of carbs on any In-N-Out burger, which is where the whole saving comes from. Say 4×4 Protein Style and it arrives wrapped in lettuce.
One Honest Note on Sodium
A published Double-Double carries 1,440 mg of sodium on its own. Scaled up, a standard 4×4 lands around 2,300 mg roughly a full day’s recommended intake in a single burger, before fries.
Not a reason to avoid it Just a reason to know what you are ordering, especially if it becomes a habit rather than an occasional thing. Skipping the spread trims a couple of hundred milligrams.
What Is a 4×4 at In-N-Out?
A 4×4 is four beef patties and four slices of American cheese, served on the standard bun with lettuce, tomato and spread unless you say otherwise.
The naming convention is patties by cheese slices. A 2×2 is the Double-Double. A 3×3 is three and three. A 4×4 is the top of the ladder.
Unlike genuinely off menu items, the 4×4 appears on In-N-Out’s own not-so-secret menu page. There is no insider knowledge required and no reason to feel awkward asking for it.
4×4 vs 3×3 vs Double-Double

| Double-Double | 3×3 | 4×4 | |
| Patties / cheese | 2 / 2 | 3 / 3 | 4 / 4 |
| Calories | 670 | 860 | 1,050 |
| Protein | 37 g | 52 g | 67 g |
| Commonly cited price | $5.65 | $8.45 | $10.99 |
| Best for | The default order | Hungry, not reckless | Post-workout or split with someone |
Each step up adds roughly 190 calories, 15 g of protein and about $1.80. If you are ordering a 4×4 for the first time, a 3×3 is the honest recommendation. Most people find four patties overwhelms the bun-to-beef ratio and the whole thing starts sliding apart.
How to Order a 4×4 at In-N-Out

Say “four by four,” not “four ex four.” That is the only pronunciation note that matters.
4×4 Animal Style
Animal Style adds mustard-grilled patties, grilled onions, extra spread and pickles. On a 4×4 that means four mustard-grilled patties, which is genuinely a different sandwich.
Animal Style adds roughly 100 calories to any burger, mostly from the extra spread. On a 4×4 that puts you near 1,150 calories and 2,600 mg of sodium. Worth it once. Probably not weekly.
Other Ways to Build It
Why You Cannot Order a 5×5 or Higher
In-N-Out used to build anything. Before 2005 there was no cap on patties or cheese slices at all.
Then, on Halloween 2004, a blogger named Will Young ordered a 100×100 at a Las Vegas In-N-Out. The crew rigged cardboard boxes together into a makeshift canoe to hold it. The photos went viral on the early internet, and the burger is estimated to have carried somewhere around 19,490 calories.
Shortly afterwards In-N-Out capped custom builds at 4×4, and that cap still stands. An employee explaining it in a Reddit AMA put it plainly: a 4×4 is already difficult to wrap, and anything larger falls apart.
You can still order loose extra patties and stack them yourself. The crew simply will not assemble a tower for you. So if you see a photo of a fifteen-patty In-N-Out burger, it is either from before 2005 or someone built it in the parking lot.
The 4×4 Flying Dutchman
There is a version of the 4×4 with no bun at all four patties, four slices of cheese, nothing else. Order it as a Flying Dutchman with four patties.

It comes in around 900 calories with roughly 3 g of carbs and the same 67 g of protein. That is the highest protein-to-carb ratio available anywhere on the In-N-Out menu.
If you are eating keto and want volume, this is the order. Read the full breakdown in our guide to the Flying Dutchman.
Four Mistakes People Make With a 4×4
Final Verdict
The In-N-Out 4×4 is the best protein-per-dollar order on the menu and the largest burger the chain will still build. At around $10.99 for 67 g of protein, the value is real.
Order it with extra toast and grilled onions. If four patties feels ambitious, the 3×3 is the smarter first attempt.
